Job Description

1. Introduction

Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA) is a network of Non-Governmental Organizations advocating for policies, laws and administrative systems that take into consideration the interests of the poor and marginalized communities. The Alliance was founded in 1997 as a committee to coordinate the work of its members on land as a response to the land reforms of the Zambian Government in the 1990s. In the last 27 years, ZLA has been coordinating land programmes of its members, partners and District Branches which are involved in advocating for gender sensitive pro-poor land policies, legislation and strengthening land governance structures. The Alliance is currently seeking to engage a reputable audit firm to conduct statutory audit of its books for three years from 2024 to 2026.

2. Purpose

The purpose of the audits is to obtain reasonable assurance that the financial statements reflect a true and fair view of the financial position of the ZLA. The audits will be performed in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Standards of Auditing (ISA) The audit reports will include an Independent Auditor’s Opinion on the financial statements.

3. Scope of work

The successful Audit firm will be responsible for auditing ZLA books and any specific donor-funded projects under the Alliance that may require separate audits. The Auditors will assess the Alliance’s compliance with its own policies and manuals, donor agreements as well as all applicable national laws and regulations.

4. Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Audit firms should meet the following criteria:
i. Compliance with legal requirements of registration
ii. Experience in audit reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Standards on Auditing (ISA)
iii. Three references from similar audits performed within the last three (3) years
iv. Financial proposal for the audit services
v. Technical proposal and work plan
vi. Curriculm Vitae for the firm’s key audit team

5. Deliverables

i. Audited financial statements stating whether the accounting standards have been complied with, and whether they portray the correct financial position of ZLA
ii. Management letter where matters that may not be material to the financial statements, but which the auditors may wish to communicate to ZLA may be documented for management action.
