Job Description

PURPOSE
This exciting opportunity exists in Fraser Alexander Zambia to assist artisans in ensuring the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of all steel pipes, chutes, conveyors, and other coal beneficiation plant equipment, as well as specialised steel manufacturing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance and Fabrication

  • Punctual adherence to site-specific time schedules/shift times.
  • Attend safety talks.
  • Implement maintenance schedules.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of all boilermaking equipment.
  • Assist in fabricating general steelwork.
  • Assist in repairing and fabricating new and existing pipelines.
  • Assist in fabricating safety guards.
  • Assist in fabricating general plant equipment as needed.

Health and Safety

  • Follow written safe work procedures.
  • Wear the correct PPE for each specific task.
  • Ensure that all safety and site emergency procedures are followed as per training and site-specific standards.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness among all team members.
  • Report and record unsafe acts, conditions, and incidents.
  • Foster a positive industrial relations climate.
  • Participate in all training-related activities.

Inspection and Reporting

  • Identify and prioritize equipment in need of maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in conducting plant inspections of all equipment/tools and report defaults in the area of responsibility.
  • Report all faults and problems to the artisan.

Housekeeping

  • Practice good housekeeping around all work areas.
  • Clean tools and store equipment properly.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate.
  • Preferably prior exposure to an engineering discipline.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 years experience in Mining/Construction.

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Understand what constitutes unsafe conditions and behavior.
  • Knowledge of unsafe behavior and its implications.
  • Basic understanding of planned maintenance documentation and procedures.
  • Boilermaker skills.
