Job Description

Job Title: 3D Print Machine Operator

Location: Lusaka

Reports To: Production Manager / Technical Supervisor

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and skilled 3D Print Machine Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining 3D printing machines to produce high-quality components and prototypes. This role involves working with various 3D printing technologies, materials, and software, ensuring precision and efficiency in production.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation and Setup

Operate and monitor 3D printing machines (e.g., FDM, SLA, SLS, or other relevant technologies) during production runs.
Prepare 3D printers for operation by calibrating machines, loading materials, and verifying system readiness.
Review and interpret CAD files, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate printing.
Perform test runs to confirm machine functionality and part accuracy before starting production.

Print Quality Control

Inspect printed parts for defects, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish to ensure they meet required specifications.
Identify and troubleshoot printing issues such as warping, under-extrusion, or layer shifting.
Conduct post-processing tasks, including support removal, sanding, polishing, and curing, as necessary.
Maintain documentation of print quality, defects, and resolution steps for continuous improvement.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Conduct routine maintenance on 3D printers, such as cleaning nozzles, replacing parts, and ensuring proper alignment.
Diagnose and repair machine malfunctions or material feed issues to minimize downtime.
Monitor material inventory levels (e.g., filaments, resins, powders) and notify supervisors of shortages.

Software and Programming

Use slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Simplify3D) to prepare 3D models for printing by adjusting parameters like layer height, speed, and infill.
Edit or optimize 3D models in CAD software for printability, if necessary.
Maintain an organized library of 3D print files and settings for efficient repeatability.

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with design and engineering teams to ensure 3D-printed parts meet project requirements.
Provide feedback on designs to optimize printability and reduce material waste.
Communicate production schedules, delays, and machine issues to supervisors and team members.

Safety and Compliance

Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper handling of materials and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure a clean and organized work area to reduce risks associated with equipment or material handling.
Follow company guidelines and industry standards for machine operation and maintenance.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification or coursework in additive manufacturing, 3D printing, or related fields is a plus.

Experience:

1-2 years of experience operating 3D printing machines or similar equipment.
Familiarity with various 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS, etc.) and materials (PLA, ABS, PETG, resins, etc.).

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in slicing software (e.g., Cura, Simplify3D, PrusaSlicer).
Basic CAD skills and familiarity with software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360.
Knowledge of post-processing techniques, such as sanding, painting, or curing.
Understanding of machine troubleshooting and basic repairs.

Soft Skills:

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Key Competencies

Knowledge of 3D printing technologies, materials, and workflows.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and move materials or components weighing up to 50 lbs.
Comfortable standing for extended periods during production runs.
Manual dexterity for handling small tools and parts during machine setup and post-processing.

Working Conditions

Full-time position in a manufacturing or design environment.
Exposure to noise, resin fumes, or powder materials; appropriate PPE will be provided.
May involve occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
