Overall Job purpose
As part of a dynamic team, the Accounts Assistant will be playing an important role in supporting the department to carry out its functions in a timely and professional manner. The role is based at the company Head Office and will assist the Accounts Manager and is expected to display a high level of integrity, maturity and professionalism.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting and finance. The candidate should also have a bachelor’s degree in either Accounting, Finance or Economics or CPA Section IV or ACCA equivalent.
Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities
- Entering financial transactions into the system.
- Processing expense requests for approval.
- Processing transactions, updating ledgers, and ensuring proper
documentation. - Provide support and guide to branch staff in their roles like posting
payments, posting in the accounting system. - Submitting payments on a timely basis after signatory approval.
- Petty cash management.
- Performing daily bank reconciliations.
- Ensuring general ledger reconciliations are completed weekly.
- Following up on outstanding items on reconciliations with relevant
teams. - Monitoring and ensuring that deposits are processed in the ledger.
- Transferring funds to branches based on approved requisitions.
- Initiating the opening/closing of bank accounts for the field and
ensuring correct signatories. - Ensuring payments, amounts, and records are accurate.
- Ensuring that all payments are filed appropriately.
- Ensuring proper filing of all journals posted monthly.
- Updating and maintaining procedural documentation.
- Assisting with audits, fact-checking, and resolving discrepancies.
- Fully accountable for accurate tax computation, and timely tax
filing/payment of statutory to ensure compliance (PAYE,NAPSA & NHIMA) - Carry out month-close processes i.e provisions, expenses
- Prepare and maintain fixed asset register, schedule and functions all
around PPE - Maintaining confidentiality of financial information.
- Must be willing to travel to different branches as needed
- Any other duties assigned by the Accounts Manager
Skills/Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in either Accounting, Finance or Economics
OR
● CPA section IV (Part 2 completed) or ACCA equivalent.
● At least 2 years of working experience in busy accounting and finance roles. Experience in microfinance/banking/insurance/consultancy/audit sector preferred
● Demonstrate teamwork with workmates at all levels
● Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
● Open to impactful change and a creative thinker.
● Experience with different accounting software. Hands-on experience in
banking systems will be an added advantage.
