Job Title: Crop Supervisor
Reports To: General Manager Cropping
Job Summary:
The Crop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing crop production activities to ensure optimal yield and quality. This position involves managing pest scouting, overseeing the application of chemicals, supervising ingredients for crop management, and leading a team of seasonal. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of agronomy practices, farm management, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pest Scouting:
- Conduct regular inspections of crops to identify the presence of pests and diseases.
- Monitor pest populations and assess damage to crops to determine necessary interventions.
- Document findings and work with the management team to implement appropriate pest management strategies.
2. Chemical Spraying:
- Oversee and execute all chemical application processes, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Manage the scheduling and application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in accordance with best agricultural practices.
- Maintain accurate records of chemical use and report any discrepancies to management.
3. Ingredients Supervision:
- Ensure the proper handling, storage, and application of agricultural inputs.
- Monitor inventory levels of fertilizers and other crop inputs, coordinating with suppliers as necessary.
- Assist in planning the formulation of crop management strategies based on soil and plant health assessments.
4. Supervision of Seasonal Workers
- Lead, train, and supervise casual and seasonal workers in daily agricultural tasks, ensuring high standards of work and safety are maintained.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide feedback to enhance productivity and team performance.
- Foster a positive work environment and promote effective team collaboration.
5. Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of crop management activities, pest control measures, and labour hours.
- Prepare regular reports for management on crop status, labour efficiency, and any issues that arise on the farm.
6. Health and Safety:
- Ensure that all safety protocols and procedures are followed by the team
- Conduct training sessions on safety via toolbox talk.
Qualifications
- Full grade 12 certificate
- Must have a Certificate in General Agriculture or related.
- Must be computer literate with better skills in MS applications i.e., Excel, Word, Power point.
- At-least 3 years work experience.
- A mature and responsible individual preferably aged 25 – 35 years
Other Skills
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Good communicator, Able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
- Stable Personality with passion for farming management
- Team player able to work with minimum supervision.
- Fast leaner and easy to adapt to new environments.
