Mitchell Drilling International is a diverse drilling services Company dedicated to safe, efficient and innovative Drilling program delivery for mining projects. As we expand our footprint throughout Africa, we are looking to fill the following positions to be based in Zambia.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Drilling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily rig operations to ensure safe, high quality, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations are provided. This is a leadership role within our drilling operations and is the key to mentoring and training drilling crews. The Drilling Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee day to day operational activities.
- Ensure all staff work in accordance with Mitchell Drilling International policies and procedures.
- Assist to develop plans for each drilling project and rig move.
- Ensure the right equipment and personnel are provided to each job.
- Ensure that there is adequate daily reporting and record keeping of all operational matters.
- Train and mentor drill crews to improve skills.
- Troubleshoot technical problems.
- Maintain effective working relationships with client representatives.
- Actively encourage personnel to report near misses, hazards, incidents
and accidents. - Diagnose down hole problems and oversee remedial action.
- Report near misses and incidents to the Company’s Safety Department within the required timeframe.
- Ensure that quality Toolbox meetings are conducted daily.
- Encourage a culture of high morale and low staff turnover.
- Ensure accurate Daily Drilling Reports are received from each site.
KEY ATTRIBUTES:
- Should be well organized with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proven experience as a drill rig supervisor.
- Must have a sound knowledge of deep hole Diamond drilling.
- Must be a team player as well as an individual player.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant Certificate or Diploma in operating a Drill Rig machine (DD/RC)
- Minimum 5 (Five) years’ experience as a Drill Rig Supervisor. Senior supervisor experience in a mining environment will be an added advantage.
- At least 5 (Five) years’ experience as a Drill Rig Operator (DD/RC)
- Health and Safety, First Aid and Fire Fighting training will be an added advantage
