Job Description
Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) is a nationally registered NGO working with development projects in the fields of education, health, agriculture and other poverty alleviation programmes. Projects are carried out in all the provinces of Zambia reaching over 1 million people. Key funding partners include the Government of Zambia, national and international development organisations (USAID, EU, Global Fund, WFP and more) as well as private sector organisations.
DAPP in Zambia is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to fill the position of Driver (4) on the CDC funded projects to be based in Ndola, Mongu, Petauke, Mazabuka.
NOTE: These positions are on contract basis up to August 2025 with a possibility of renewing depending on continued funding for the project.
1. Duties and essential job functions:
1.1 Driving Project staff for various project activities- meetings, site visits, data collection etc. as assigned by supervisors.
1.2 Performs routine checks of oil, fuel, battery, and brake fluid and water levels in the radiator of assigned company vehicle before embarking on a trip and be able to advise users accordingly.
1.3 Reports any mechanical/electrical fault/maintenance requirements to the supervisor for timely rectification of the fault(s).
1.4 Maintains project vehicles to be in road worthy condition, clean – interiorly and externally, insured and with valid road tax, etc., before they are used.
1.5 Reports any accident to the supervisor for timely action.
1.6 Checks that all motor vehicle tools and accessories (e.g. spare wheel, Jack, spanners, triangles, fire extinguishers, first aid box etc.) are in place and in good working condition, at the beginning and end of each day.
1.7 Ensures that the assigned vehicle is serviced within schedule by reporting the mileage to the supervisor on time.
1.8 Ensures that passengers take safety precautions, such as wearing of safety belts, before any journey begins.
1.9 Ensures that every journey and fuelling/refuelling are recorded in the Motor Vehicle Logbook and signed off.
1.10 Delivers materials and personnel to instructed destinations, ensuring safety at all times.
1.11 Ensures security of the vehicle at all times and that the vehicle is parked only in a secure place when not in use.
1.12 Conducts a weekly checklist of vehicle condition and submits to supervisor for review.
1.13 Performs routine office errands as assigned by superiors in consultation with Fleet Management Team.
1.14 Prepares and submits monthly vehicle utilisation reports and fuel reconciliation sheets.
2. Qualifications and Experience:
2.1 Completion of Grade 12 level of Education.
2.2 Minimum Class C Drivers’ licence.
2.3 Valid police clearance certificate.
2.4 Five (05) years’ experience working as a Driver preferably in a Non- Governmental Organisation.
2.5 Experience in providing administrative support to a development project-e.g sending courier, dispatching and receiving goods.
2.6 Experience with Defensive Driving.
2.7 Excellent knowledge of traffic rules and laws of Zambia.
2.8 Willing to work long hours and sometimes during weekends/public holidays depending on project demands.
2.9 Ability to maintain the highest levels of commitment and confidentiality.
2.10 Basic computer knowledge will be an added advantage.
