Since 2019, we have been at the forefront of the renewable energy movement in Zambia, offering Pay-as-You-Go (PAYG) solar home systems that provide affordable, clean energy to homes in the greater district of Mumbwa.

Our strategic vision involves venturing into the productive use of renewable energy to support the dairy production sub-sector in the greater Chibombo district. As part of this vision, we are establishing Community Energy Hubs in key locations, including Shimukuni, Malambanyama, and Keembe, to further empower our communities.

Little Sun Zambia Limited is on a mission to achieve universal access to clean energy. With a strong foundation in the PAYG business for solar home systems, we are expanding our transformative initiatives and venturing into the productive use of renewable energy with the establishment of Community Energy Hubs for productive use.

Job Purpose

Little Sun Zambia Limited is seeking a skilled Head of Construction and Infrastructure with strong expertise in construction and building to lead the development of Community Energy Hubs (CEHs) in rural areas. These hubs, powered by solar energy, serve as storage facilities for preserving fresh milk collected from local farmers before distribution to vendors. The ideal candidate must have a motorbike rider’s license (priority) and a valid driver’s license for mobility across project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Construction & Infrastructure Development: Overseeing the design, planning, and construction of Community Energy Hubs, ensuring durability, safety, and efficiency;
  • Managing the acquisition of and interface with local planning authorities;
  • Site Acquisition & Planning: Supporting site selection and assisting in the acquisition process based on evaluation and survey findings;
  • Project Coordination: Managing the recruitment and supervision of contractors, suppliers, and local stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality project execution;
  • Structural Integrity & Compliance: Ensuring all buildings are to the highest quality and meet local construction codes, environmental standards, and safety regulations;
  • Budgeting & Resource Management: Overseeing material procurement, cost estimation, and budget control;
  • Technical Support & Maintenance: Providing ongoing support for the maintenance of existing hubs and troubleshooting structural or operational challenges;
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Working closely with local communities, farmers, and vendors to align project goals with their needs;
  • Mobility & On-Site Supervision: Traveling to multiple rural locations to monitor progress and resolve issues;
  • Reporting & Documentation: Preparing and submitting regular project progress reports, including site assessments, construction updates, budget utilization, and any challenges encountered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field;
  • Proven experience in building construction, particularly in rural or off-grid environments;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring quality and adherence to timelines;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, structural analysis software, and project management tools (preferred);
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability to remote working conditions;
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
  • Willingness to live in Chibombo District;
  • Mandatory: Valid motorbike rider’s license;
  • Preferred: Valid driver’s license for additional mobility.
