Job Description
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries.
FANSER+ (Food and Nutrition Security Enhanced Resilience plus) is a bilateral project commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in Zambia. The project is working towards implementing the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) National Nutrition Act 3, 2020 and the BMZ core area strategy “Transformation of agricultural and food systems” in the “Food and Nutrition Security” area of intervention.
A Lusaka-based team advises the national level and trains the intermediary structures for implementing multisectoral food and nutrition security interventions. Further, FANSER+ works with two regional project teams and GRZ structures in Eastern and Luapula Provinces to sustainably improve the nutritional situation and resilience of rural households, especially for women and young children, in six target districts.
The project is based on a predecessor project of the special Initiative “ONEWORLD – No Hunger / Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” and is embedded in the GIZ Zambia Agri-Food Cluster. Due to the current drought crisis in Zambia, the project will also implement drought mitigation measures in Eastern Province together with other GIZ agricultural and water projects.
In this context, the project is seeking a suitable candidate for the following position:
Junior Advisor – Multisectoral Nutrition Implementation, (Band 3) – based in Chipata

Main tasks and responsibilities
- supports the development of the Project Results Based Monitoring system (RBM) for the respective region (Eastern) in collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in Lusaka
- provides technical guidance to implementing partners for all activities related to the Project RBM system and Operational Monitoring
- supports the collation of data that has been collected and submitted by Implementing partners
- reviews periodical M&E reports submitted by implementing partners
- assists the Regional Coordinator in all project management related tasks, including administrative and logistical processes
- supports the preparation and coordination of events, workshops, missions and studies
- coordinates all monitoring and evaluation related activities, including the preparation of field visits, data collection and use of IT applications and updating databases
- assists the project technical team in all areas of interventions, including the preparation of training, workshops, report writing and logistical support during events.
- supports the knowledge management of the project, including collecting and sharing reports, IEC material and other relevant information and uploading them to the project’s data management system
- assists in communicating, updating and collecting information under the guidance of the project’s communication expert based in Lusaka
- does practical oriented research regarding specific implementation of relevant topics, such as nutrition, agriculture, WASH and behaviour change approaches and systematises the information before sharing it with the project team and partners
- assists in the documentation and monitoring/evaluation of training and workshops
- identifies and documents good and innovative practices and lessons learnt
- contributes to the preparation of periodical reports
- supports the implementation of all activities run by the implementation partners and consultancies
- attends meetings and events with the implementation partner and documents results
- carries out important tasks for the project, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics, nutrition sciences, agriculture sciences or development studies.

Professional experience
- At least 1 year’s professional experience (e.g. internships, volunteering, etc.) in the field of development cooperation, monitoring, public entities or research institutions
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office or online databases)
- Experience in project management, planning or research in an area related to the project’s requirements is desirable
- Fluency in English (written and oral) and knowledge of Ci Cewa.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
- Possession of a valid motorcycle license and willingness to use that mode of transportation to achieve tasks.
- Ability to work responsibly, effectively and in a target-oriented manner
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures to be agreed with management
The successful candidate will be expected to start employment with GIZ, on a fixed term contract.
