Job Description

Job purpose

The Zambia Junior Project Engineer (PE) supports and works with the Project Engineer and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing bridge construction projects in rural communities throughout the country. In close coordination with Bridges to Prosperity’s construction teams, the PE interfaces with local government and community leaders to ensure the success of each project.

Responsibilities

Project assistance
– Work with the Project Engineer planning and managing construction projects from start to completion.
– Prepare project plans, construction schedules and budgets.
– Support the Foreperson and construction personnel to read and interpret engineering drawings specifications, quantity survey, and cost estimates to pertaining site conditions.

Construction Management
– Provide project management oversight for Forepersons and local laborers
– Coordinate construction logistics and schedules
– Coordinating materials and equipment procurement and logistics with the Procurement and Logistics Team
– Developing the program of work and strategy to ensure the success of each project
– Assure compliance with B2P construction and safety policies and notify the Zambia
– Engineering Manager of any as-built changes that differ from approved design drawings
– Respond to work delays and other problems and emergencies responsibly
– Perform safety inspections of site when work is underway and ensure that all people on site are wearing appropriate PPE
– Managing quality control documents on-site and ensuring files are submitted in a timely and professional manner.
– Organize maintenance trainings with beneficiary communities.
– Managing a team of Forepersons, Masons, and local laborers, tracking attendance, and facilitating payroll bi-monthly.
– Interpret technical information and construction drawings and explain to Foreperson.
– Work harmoniously with rural communities, local government partners, and other B2P employees to ensure projects are being delivered timely and effectively.
– Submit site photos to B2P’s Box account for social media purposes
= Maintain positive morale within B2P team and work cooperatively with fellow team members

Qualifications
* Undergraduate degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Construction management or supervision Experience of at least 2 years.
* Familiarity with surveying and use of auto level or theodolite
* Familiarity with AutoCAD
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including MS-Project and other software
* Professional and details-oriented communication and organizational skills
* Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
* Creative, energetic, and self-motivated, with a proven track record of taking initiative and problem-solving
* Intermediate written and spoken English
* Passion for B2P’s mission and international non-profit work
* Full Driving License
* Valid Registration by the Institution of Engineers Zambia
