Job summary
The Laboratory Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the main laboratory, ensuring that all laboratory examination processes are conducted in compliance with established protocols, guidelines, and standards. He/She will report to the Laboratory Director and work closely with other managers to ensure provision of quality laboratory services as well as adherence to documented laboratory policies and procedures.
Main duties
- Oversee daily laboratory operations including testing, review and release of results to ensure efficient workflow and quality of results- PBMC, Haematology, Chemistry, Virology and pre-post analytical bench.
- Supervises implementation of the established laboratory quality policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with the Laboratory QA/QC manager to introduce new examination methods when required and develop procedures for all laboratory examinations.
- Conducts training and competency assessment for all staff to ensure they are competent to perform assigned duties.
- Monitors examination of samples, including proficiency specimens, to ensure the results are released within the established Turnaround Time (TAT) and manage storage and shipment of samples.
- Quantifies and manages reagents and consumables to ensure uninterrupted delivery of laboratory services.
- Manages laboratory equipment to ensure availability of adequate and functional equipment as well as identify equipment replacement needs.
- Coordinates examination of verification/validation specimens to ensure all new examination methods and equipment are verified/validated according to established procedures.
- Provides advisory services to laboratory users
- Ensures adherence to biosafety/biosecurity requirements of all laboratory staff in the conduct of laboratory activities.
- Investigates and implement corrective actions for all nonconforming events including audit findings.
- Collaborates with the Laboratory QA/QC manager in preparing the laboratory for external audits, inspections, site monitoring visits and assessments.
- Performs monthly review of records and prepare monthly performance reports.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in biomedical science or recognized equivalent is required.
Registration with HPCZ and a valid practicing license is required. - A minimum of 7 years’ work experience in medical/Research Laboratory is a requirement.
- Training and in-depth knowledge of ISO 15189 standard and GCLP guidelines.
- Job knowledge and ability to function independently.
- Leadership and managerial skills and ability to coordinate teams.
- Good analytical skills as well as report writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Organization, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in working with computers.
