Who are we

Our mission is the call of Isaiah 1:17, to serve these children by constantly learning to do good, earnestly seeking justice, standing up to what oppresses them and advocating for their rights. Purpose of the position
Promote professional actions, included in a plan that achieves vulnerated rights restitution for children and adolescents, ensuring justice, as well as get restorative justice in favor of children and adolescents.

Major Responsibilities
1. Dispute criminal cases as a co-plaintiff lawyer, participating in all the phases of the criminal process that require the defense of the victim’s interest.
2. Develop, coordinate, and implement Kids Alive International Zambia strategies to provide legal support to victims-beneficiaries in all the needs that may arise as result of victimization, working according to the model of care and protocols adopted by the organization.
3. Conduct strategic litigation actions in criminal cases as legal representatives of Kids Alive International Zambia and be present on prosecutors’ office and courtrooms as co-plaintiff actively participating in all the phases of the criminal process where the law allows their participation to defend the victim’s best interest
4. Support the Prosecutor’s Office to promote an efficient and effective criminal investigation that results in deducting criminal responsibilities on the subjects whose responsibilities could be determined in the process.
5. Coordinate with stakeholders and staff members from different institutions involved in victim’s and survivor’s support/attention, especially those who provide free access and services.
6. Constantly provide custom advice to the victims, their families, and tutors according to each case.
7. Write memos and any case of legal documentation that supports the progress of the assigned cases that results in adequate legal approaches.
8. Present appeals, resources and legal actions related to the cases under their responsibility, with the corresponding approval/authorization of the organization.
9. Collectively prepare strategies and needed actions to present excellent legal recourses and actions.
10. Provide orientation, support and guidance to the children and teenagers for their legal diligence or any process related to their legal procedures, additionally provide any support and help they may need.
11. Litigate cases in child protection/civil cases, as representatives of the organization, where the organization is participating in the child and teenager’s courtroom, supporting the victim’s best interest, when it is required.
12. Litigate constitutional processes (personal exhibition, appeals and in constitutionality) related to the different processes about the organization.
13. Execute other lawyer duties and advisories that can be assigned by their direct supervisors that pertain to the country office processes and justice advocacy.
14. Keep good relationships with the different multidisciplinary teams that support the different case models to have effective coordination for the actions regarding the cases.
15. Ensure keeping good relationships with the different stakeholders and institutions and promote good practices implementation and other actions that contribute awareness raising and advocacy in the justice system.
16. Compile data about the evolution of cases to support accountability for the NGO.
17. Ensure good stewardship of the human, time and financial resources or any other resources assigned.
18. Develop and execute monthly scheduled activities.
19. Participate actively in group/team meetings of the Families Together team to establish follow up actions.
20. Provide training, workshops and orientation regarding rights protection and justice, as well as those who promote advocacy and raise awareness about pertinent attention for the victims in the justice system.

Key qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law from a recognized university.
  • Completion of the ZIALE program.
  • Registration with the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ)
  • Good communication skills: Both written and oral ability to effectively present legal arguments.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to interpret complex legal issues and provide sound advice.
  • Ethical conduct: Adherence to the legal profession’s ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of Zambian law: Familiarity with relevant legal statutes and precedents.
  • Ability to work in a cultural diversity environment with NGO exposure.

SKILLS & ABILIITES

  • Understanding about Child and Adolescents Rights National and International Legal Framework
  • Child and Adolescents Protection and Justice Awareness
  • Child Rights Vulneration and Threaten Case Identification Skills
  • Basic knowledge about laws that establish child protection mechanisms as well as the one related to sexual violence and justice advocacy.
