Job Description

Job 1: Mechanical Fitter

Experience: 5 to 7 years

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Operate drilling machines and related machinery.
  • Skills in assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of standard drilling and tapping procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes.
  • Self-driven for progressive and continued learning and development.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construct mechanical systems and equipment to engineering drawings.
  • Fault-finding and diagnostics of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative.
  • Prioritize tasks and meet given timescales.
  • Ensure quality standards are met.

Job 2: Store In-Charge

Experience: 2 to 3 years

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to use a computer, navigate the internet, and use common software applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of machine tools and materials.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the store, including scheduling.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Issue materials, consumables, and tools according to operator requirements.
  • Maintain day-to-day records for tools and consumables.
  • Keep stock register for raw materials and machine tools.
  • Record incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Maintain fuel and maintenance records for forklifts and gensets.

Job 3: Machinist (Milling Machine Operator)

Experience: 7 to 10 years

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Operate milling machines and related machinery.
  • Ability to select module gears and cutters.
  • Knowledge of milling machine cutters, tools, and instruments.
  • Well-versed in dividing head and indexing systems.
  • Self-driven for progressive and continued learning and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the milling machine.
  • Cut all types of gears and sprockets.
  • Milling keyways and slots.
  • Boring and reaming.
  • Follow Foreman’s instructions according to the job card.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
  • Prioritize and work within set timescales.
  • Ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain tools and instruments in safe condition.
  • Perform machine maintenance and minor repairs as needed.

Job 4: Machinist (Lathe Machine Operator)

Experience: 5 to 7 years

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Operate heavy lathe machines and related machinery.
  • Ability to select gears for threading and self-speed.
  • Knowledge of lathe machine tools and instruments.
  • Well-versed in bearing size and finishing systems.
  • Self-driven for progressive and continued learning and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the heavy-duty lathe machine.
  • Cut all types of threads (metric and imperial).
  • Perform tool and drill grinding according to material specifications.
  • Follow Foreman’s instructions according to the job card.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
  • Prioritize and work within set timescales.
  • Ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain tools and instruments in safe condition.
  • Perform machine maintenance and minor repairs as needed.

General Requirements for All Positions:

  1. Must have a Grade 12 certificate.
  2. Certificate in Metal Fabrication (Crafts Certificate).
  3. Must be a member of EIZ (Engineering Institution of Zambia).
