EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company Limited (LHPC) is an independent hydro-electric power producer based in Kabwe in the Central Province of Zambia. LHPC owns two Hydropower Stations namely, Mulungushi Power Station and Lunsemfwa Power Station with installed capacity of 32 MW and 24 MW respectively. The two Power Stations have both an upstream reservoir and four generating units each. The older units have undergone refurbishment in recent years. LHPC has Power Purchase Agreements with ZESCO, Sable Zinc and Copperbelt Energy Corporation. Further, LHPC is a member of the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP).
Therefore, the Company invites applications from highly motivated, result-oriented, suitably qualified and experienced professionals to fill the following vacancy:

Procurement Officer

Job Purpose
Managing the procurement process and ensuring the efficient flow of goods and services within the organization. You will be responsible for sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing inventory levels and maintaining strong relationships with vendors to meet the organization’s needs while minimizing costs and risks.

Key Responsibilities:

Sourcing and Vendor Management:

  • Manage the company’s computerized procurement system and update processes as necessary.
  • Ensure well-coordinated and auditable procurement processes.
  • Identify potential suppliers and vendors that meet the organization’s quality, timely and cost effective and delivery requirements.
  • Conduct supplier evaluations and assessments to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing and service levels.

Procurement Operations:

  • Save as Secretariate of the Tender committee and ensure timely evaluation of tenders.
  • Coordinate the procurement process from requisition to delivery, ensuring timely acquisition of goods and services.
  • Process purchase orders, track shipments and manage supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery and quality standards are met.
  • Resolve any supply chain issues or discrepancies that may arise during the procurement process.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels and stock movements to optimize inventory turnover and minimize carrying costs.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to ensure accuracy and integrity of inventory data.
  • Implement inventory control measures to prevent stockouts, overstocking, or obsolete inventory.

Cost Management:

  • Analyze pricing trends, market conditions, and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce procurement costs while maintaining product quality and supplier relationships.
  • Track and report key procurement metrics, such as cost savings, supplier performance, and inventory turnover.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and regulations, including ethical sourcing practices and legal requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks, such as supply chain disruptions, supplier financial instability, or quality issues.
  • Conduct due diligence on suppliers and vendors to assess potential risks and ensure business continuity.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and logistics, to align procurement activities with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners to provide updates on procurement activities, address concerns, and facilitate decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Procurement or CIPS Graduate Diploma.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management is a plus.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Registered member of Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply
