Job Description

Mabiza Resources Limited (“Mabiza”) operates the Munali Nickel Mine (“Munali”), which is in the Mazabuka District, 75kms south of Lusaka, Zambia. Mabiza is a wholly owned entity of Consolidated Nickel Mines Ltd.

The Mine is a modern, world-class facility with fully mechanized underground operations. To support this vision, Mabiza is seeking the services of a Senior Drill & Blast Engineer to take up the position of:

Role: Senior Drill & Blast Engineer (x1)
Reporting: Mine Technical Services Manager
Job Purpose: Provide timely and professional support to mining operations in ensuring safe and optimized extraction of the ore body through technical support in planning, design, scheduling, extraction sequencing, modelling analysis, process improvement, reconciliation, and reporting. The Position provides technical support to the production drill and blast functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure implementation of safety and health policies, procedures, and practices in line with company and legal requirements.
  • Mine Design, Realistic and timely Planning and software Training to the Planning and blasting sections.
  • Review and provide Daily reports.
  • Review and ensure quality Planning meetings (Weekly and Monthly).
  • Monthly QAQC reports and feedback.
  • Coach and guide the section towards Improved Quality mining.
  • Train and coach the team towards attaining acceptable overbreak/underbreak (less than 10%).
  • Reduce Offline mining.
  • Ensure QAQC on long hole and eliminate Stope Underbreak, overbreak.
  • Monitor and control expenditure to ensure that Mining Operations are executed efficiently.
  • Control all resources deployed to Capital Projects.
  • Guidance of operations to be within budgets.
  • Ensuring that all tools and equipment are well secured and available for production.

Management:

  • Instill managerial leadership practices that reflect Company values and culture.
  • Maintain high morale among all employees and demonstrate a culture of learning, achievement of results, personal accountability, and integrity.
  • Lead, manage, and develop human capital to ensure adequate availability of skills within the company and core competencies within the Mining Department.
  • Identification of high performers and ensuring they are well harnessed.
  • Well-motivated, self-directed teams.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • BSc or B(Eng) in Mining Engineering.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in mining, specifically in Drill and Blast/Planning Section.
  • Experience in work supervision is a must.
  • Experience in management roles is an added advantage.
  • Membership of relevant professional body (e.g., EIZ).
  • First Aid Training and knowledge are a must.
  • Ability to write and implement safe work procedures.
  • Knowledge of mining and explosives regulations.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems such as Surpac, Micro-station, Aegis, and Deswik is an added advantage.
  • Good presentation skills, development, and delivery.
