Tailor Trainer
Twaabane Creative Centre is a creativity-oriented vocational training centre, under Tujatane Trust School in Southern Zambia. We aim to promote social and economic development in our community by providing free, high-quality skills training and access to income-generating opportunities. The long-term goal is for the centre to become self-sustaining by selling its products.

Job Title: Tailor Trainer
Accountable to: The Centre Manager
Summary: The Textile Studio Tailor Trainer provides TEVETA-oriented training to the Twaabane Creative Centre. The Tailor Trainer will work closely with Centre Management to ensure that the Tailor Training project is successful and integrated into the vision, mission, and values of the Twaabane Creative Centre.
Key Responsibilities
Textile Vocational Training
- In line with the objectives of the Textile Studio project, design and implement a comprehensive TEVETA curriculum for tailoring students
- Prepare schemes of work, resources, lesson plans and objectives in advance of lessons
- Use a variety of teaching and participatory methods, such as group discussions, demonstrations, and activities
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s varying needs
- Prepare, administer, and grade assessments to evaluate progress
- Support the voting, and maintain a good relationship with the Student Representative
- Plan and supervise projects, field trips, visits or other experiential
activities, and guide participants in learning from those activities - Build up a Resource Folder that captures lesson plans, curriculums, schemes of work, printed resources, activities, and other helpful resources
- Ensure the Textile Studio Agreement and Centre Policies are adhered to by all centre participants to ensure the safety and care of participants, the building and equipment
- Ensure the classroom is kept in a safe and clean condition
- Order resources as required, manage all resources and ensure that they are kept in good order and signed in/out of the store room accurately
- Log any equipment issues immediately with the management
- Maintain accurate records and registers for student allowances
- Manage an inclusive, disciplined, and friendly environment in the classroom
- Lead the ongoing TEVETA registration process and the Centre’s compliance with TEVETA requirements
- Support the trainees with preparation for TEVETA certification exams
- Support the registration and enrollment of new participants, when needed
Community/ Other
- Support sewing-oriented school projects that are based at the centre (e.g. Sewing club. home economics, menstrual hygiene)
- Attend, and contribute toward, weekly team meetings and daily morning meetings
- Report any safeguarding issues or matters of concern to management
- Collect relevant participant data when required
- Maintain and develop strong partnerships with the school and community leaders
- Attend and support regular internal and external events e.g. International Women’s Day
- Regularly update the Centre Manager on the progress of projects
- One-to-ones with the line- manager, including professional development and reviews
- Ensure that all work is in line with the centre’s policies
- Ensure ethical considerations at all stages of training, production and other
work
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum Diploma or Craft Level in Design, Cutting & Tailoring or in Fashion &Design
- Minimum five years of relevant work experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- TEVETA Accredited Design, Cutting and Tailoring Trainer
- Proven track record of experience with TEVETA syllabi (Level I, II, III)
- Strong organizational, time management, research and analytical skills with a high standard of attention to detail
- Experience in Training/Teaching/Facilitating/Instructing
- Teaching qualifications will be an asset
- Proficient in MS Office suite
- Able to work independently and as a member of the team
- Community engagement experience is considered an asset
- Teaching ability in any of the following local languages: Tonga, Nyanja or Lozi is considered an asset
