Position: Tipper Truck Driver
Location: Kafue National Park
Reporting to: Roads Supervisor.
Type of contract: Fixed Term

Background

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization committed to the full rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks, working in collaboration with governments and local communities. Currently, we manage 23 national parks and protected areas across 13 countries, covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Job Purpose
To safely and legally operate institutional tipper trucks while maintaining high service standards and ensuring the timely completion of daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure strong compliance with African Parks’ Standard Operating Procedures (AP SOPs).
2. Transport crushed rock, sand, and gravel to and from designated locations.
3. Verify material types to ensure they adhere to weight restrictions and load materials correctly onto the dump/tipper truck. Follow Safe Working Procedures and Risk Assessments for loading and unloading.
4. Inspect the dump truck before and after each trip or as required by management, checking oil, fuel, water levels, lights, and tires.
5. Promptly report any accidents, injuries, or mechanical issues to management or the appropriate authority.
6. Maintain truck cleanliness, perform routine maintenance, and ensure repairs align with guidelines in the Truck Owner’s Manual.
7. Communicate regularly with end users and supervisors to ensure the delivery schedule is followed and to report any issues with traffic or site conditions.
8. Keep accurate records of materials transported and tasks completed.
9. Represent GKLL in a professional, polite manner at all times.
10. Complete all assigned work within the designated workday.
11. Maintain an accurate vehicle logbook.
12. Comply with all safety regulations and workplace policies.
13. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
14. Ensure good housekeeping at worksites.
15. Follow operational manuals and signage at all times.
16. Report any truck defects to the workshop/transport section.
17. Adhere to instructions from supervisors and follow established procedures.
18. This list is not exhaustive, and the role may require undertaking tasks as reasonably expected within the scope and grading of the position.

Qualifications:
1. Minimum Grade 12 Certificate.
2. Class CE Driver’s License, held for at least three years from the date of first issue.
3. Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
4. Good driving record with no major violations.
5. Proven experience in operating a standard dump truck.
6. Strong working knowledge of construction site safety, truck maintenance, and road safety regulations.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills.
8. Exceptional customer service skills.
9. Effective communication skills.
10. Ability to operate and drive multiple types of equipment is an added advantage.
11. Strong aptitude for fieldwork.
12. Reliable and dependable.
